Indy is a 1-year-old, 30 lb female terrier mix with the perfect blend of sweetness, smarts, and snuggle energy. She’s a cuddly little shadow who forms attachments quickly and is happiest when she’s close to her people. Once she decides you’re hers, expect a loyal sidekick who’s always ready to be near you—preferably touching you.

Indy is housebroken and kennel-trained, and she walks into her crate like it’s no big deal… especially if there’s a snack involved. She’ll sometimes put herself to bed, curl up, and fall asleep with the door left open. In her current foster home, she has (so far) proven to be trustworthy to roam the house, without ‘accidents’ or inappropriate chewing.

Indy truly loves going on daily walks with a harness and leash, though she’s still learning good leash manners. She also enjoys the back yard and would do best in a home with a fence. In the house, she’s happiest when snuggled next her favorite people, and she’ll nap next to you for hours. Indy would do fine as the only dog in the home, or with a relaxed and friendly pet sibling.

Potential adopters should know that Indy can be skittish and fearful of certain noises, movements, and loud voices, which will have her running into the safety of her crate. This behavior will require a patient and loving family who will accept and encourage Indy as she works thru these little fears that crop up. Indy is a very gentle and mellow soul who responds best to gentle voices and a soft touch. She is a quiet girl who prefers a home on the quiet side, and she doesn’t do much barking. With love and patience it’s expected that her confidence will grow as she becomes sure she’s safe in her new family. Indy shows confidence when she can rely on routines in the home, so that will be an important component in her successful transition to a new family. She also must be provided with an appropriately sized crate with an open door where she can escape if she gets overwhelmed by daily household life. Indy prefers to sleep with her person, but her open crate is her safe spot during the day. Adopters who know the joy of a ‘Velcro dog’ will appreciate the big-love that Indy brings, and you’ll never have a lonely moment with her in your home.

With Indy’s calm and gentle nature, along with a strong attachment to her person, she would make a wonderful companion dog for someone who’s home often. It’s impossible not to fall in love with sweet Indy. She enjoys interaction with adults and children alike. Indy is always a pleasure to be around and brings a happy and calm energy into the family.
