Local Surrender

Doc came into rescue as an owner surrender after his family suffered some health issues which prevented them from being able to care for Doc any longer. He is a 6 year old foxhound with a gentle temperament who is happy to say hello to everyone (dogs and people) and leans in to get pets. He is goofy and expressive and loves to be a part of activities. Doc was used to having his family around all the time so he is not so sure about being left alone. He is working on crate training but does howl in his crate at times. He may appreciate a family where there is someone around a lot of the time while he is working on adjusting to a new routine.

Doc is on a fitness journey—the circumstances of his previous living arrangements left him overfed and not getting enough exercise. With an appropriate diet and exercise he should be able to slim down without too much trouble and fortunately Doc absolutely loves his walks and loves playing with other dogs. He currently weighs about 85 lbs but likely shouldn't be more than 70 lbs. Though he did live as a single dog before Doc has shown that he truly thrives with other dogs around and has been polite and playful with dogs of all sizes. He has not been tested with cats. He has not lived with children before but gets big tail wags when he sees children at events or out on walks and has been gentle and sweet with them. He was very gentle with his previous owners who used mobility aids to get around.

Doc is a typical hound on leash. His nose is always to the ground and he loves taking in all the smells so he can be a bit zig-zaggy on walks as he follows his nose but doesn't pull too much. Doc has been getting extra walks as a part of his fitness journey and he is always game to go out for more. Once he's had his walks he is low key inside and will happily snooze next to his people or with his dog friends or hunker down to binge watch Heated Rivalry or whatever your favorite show is. He is also a great work from home buddy!

Doc is neutered, heartworm negative, and up to date on his vaccines. He is housebroken in his current foster home. Ideally Doc would love a home with a fenced yard so he can play and sniff outside, and another dog friend (or friends). His coat is ridiculously soft and his ears are extra velvety and I'm pretty sure he can look into your soul with his sweet hound eyes. Doc is a great balance of energy and calm and has so much love to offer to a new family. His foster is happy to answer any questions for approved adopters.
