6/29/2023 Hey y'all, I'm Lexie! I'm a 2 year old, ~45 lb. treeing walker coonhound from Georgia. That means I'm bred for hunting and chasing raccoons into trees, but I seem to have little to no prey drive (cats are mildly interesting, but mostly boring to me, and so far I have not noticed the multitude of bunnies in the neighborhood while on walks). I was probably mostly used for breeding puppies, but I have celebrated my last Mother's Day and am now officially retired! I am crate trained and housebroken in my foster home. I'm living with a couple of other hounds and I like to hang out with them. I LOVE treats and will jump up for them - my foster mom keeps trying to get me to sit before I get a treat but I don't understand this ... yet! I'm also being taught that jumping up when there are no treats is not a good idea. Likewise trying to get out of my fenced yard - I would love to roam free to chase up all those tantalizing smells, but foster mom says no (and then takes me on a leash walk instead). I want to please my people so I (mostly) listen to them. I adore going for walks because it allows me to smell everything. I will follow a scent trail as far as you'll let me (trip into a heavily wooded area, anyone?), but I am easily redirected. I do pull a bit on leash, so a harness or gentle lead is not a bad idea. I am learning to come when called, and I respond to whistles (it may take a few tries!). I am extremely affectionate and love my people, and I'm a decent guard dog in a pinch (visitors will be treated to a brief howling session upon arrival; Aside from that I am generally quiet so far). I like to run around the yard, but I don't understand these things you call toys. I didn't have those where I grew up, so I don't have much interest in them (a puzzle toy with treats inside would be a hound of a different color, though!). Foster mom says hounds are ideal family pets, and I agree. Come meet me and let me show you what a good girl I am!
